Local Resident discount card

Our Local Resident discount, kindly sponsored by Alvance Aluminium Group, is now valid ALL YEAR ROUND!

If you are a resident of Lochaber, Newtonmore, Oban and other Fort William surrounding areas – and haven’t signed up for this FREE card yet, please follow the instructions below to start taking advantage of a great discount on General Release cinema tickets!

To sign up for the Local Resident discount:

  • Register a user account on the Highland Cinema website  (if you haven’t already). This provides extra benefits, like remembering your preferred seats, payment method, film ratings and more.
  • Visit the cinema with proof of your local address and our staff will update your account status to ‘Local Resident’.
  • OR email info@highlandcinema.co.uk with evidence of your local address and we will update your account – this may take up to three working days from when the email is sent to become active. You will receive an email when this is done.

After that, you will automatically receive the discount when booking tickets online or at the Box Office!

Once signed up you will receive a free membership card with a QR code on the reverse when you next visit the cinema. This card makes it faster and easier to identify you at the Box Office when collecting tickets or booking in person. The Local Resident discount is only possible thanks to the generosity of Alvance’s continued support of the local community. A few Terms & Conditions of note:

  • The Local Resident discount card is available free to all residents of Lochaber, Newtonmore and Oban and its surrounding area up to Fort William. You must sign up on our website first, before speaking to a member of staff or emailing us to receive your Local Resident status. We will not sign you up in person at the Box Office, unless it is particularly quiet.
  • The discount is only valid on mainstream General Release titles, not Live Cinema, events and other special screenings.
  • The discount is active for booking online and in person to all those signed up.
  • The discount is automatically applied to any showing it’s valid for when booking online, once you receive ‘Local Resident’ membership status.
  • Anyone aged 15 or over who may purchase tickets for themselves or others should have their own individual account.
  • All ‘Local Resident’ members can buy up to five adult and five kids tickets with the discount automatically applied. Tickets beyond that are charged at normal prices.
  • The ticket discount is approximately 30% off all General Release titles only – it is not valid on special screenings, Live Cinema, events, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Why should I register?
A.   You have to be a registered, validated Local Resident member with an account on our website to get the discount online and at the Box Office.

Q.  What proof of address do I have to provide?
A.   Any typical official document / letter that shows your name and address is sufficient. You only have to provide this once and we don’t keep a copy of it.

Q.  Will I get a card?
A.   Yes, Local Resident cards with QR codes are available at the Box Office and can be picked up anytime after you have completed your user registration. Having the card speeds up identifying yourself as a Local Resident, buying and picking up tickets at the Box Office, and more. The cards are free.

Q. I forgot to bring my membership card
A.  You can still get the discount by making our staff aware of your registered username when buying tickets, so they can find you on the system.

Q. I lost my membership card
A.  Let us know on your next visit and we will assign you a new card. If you lose more than two cards, you may be charged a small replacement fee.

Q. I found someone’s membership card
A.  Please hand it in to the Box Office and we will reunite it with its owner, or reset it for reuse.
